The name AWANA is derived from the first letters of “Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed,” which comes from II Timothy 2:15 – “Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth.” Every Sunday is divided into three time periods: handbook time, game time, and council time. In Handbook Time, clubbers recite the assignments and the verses they’ve memorized, and present the projects they’ve been working on to their individual team leaders. They enjoy a sharing and prayer time with the other members of their team, and receive “bucks” for each completed section to buy items once a month from the Awana Store. In Game Time, children enjoy relays and activities around the unique Awana Circle. The games are structured to help the clubbers develop important listening skills, follow directions, and work as a vital member of a team. During Council Time, children will be exposed to messages from God’s Word presented by club leaders and special guest speakers. Awards are handed out and announcements are made during this time as well. The first step in becoming a member of our Awana Club is to finish the requirements of the entrance test. Upon completion, a child will be eligible to purchase a uniform and a handbook. Earning this privilege is an exciting event for the children, and starts them on their way to earning the awards, certificates, ribbons, and trophies that come with greater achievement.
